Each year, Fairview Range participates in the internationally recognized DAISY Award program, which honors nurses for their extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and the meaningful difference they make in the lives of their patients. We receive numerous heartfelt nominations each year from patients, families, and colleagues who have been deeply impacted by our nurses.
These outstanding nurses were selected for the remarkable care, kindness, and dedication they provide each day. Their actions remind us that one nurse’s care can leave a lasting impression on a patient’s life. Here are their inspiring stories:
Jamie Winter, RN
“I had gone into labor a few days earlier than I expected to. This was my first pregnancy, and I was terribly nervous about what to expect and what was to come. I had a healthy delivery with excellent care from the surgery team. The day went by so quick, and I had visitor after visitor. The evening came and after all the visitors stopped, I suddenly felt alone. My new nurse came in and introduced herself as Jamie and told me she was going to be my nurse for the night. I ended up having Jamie as my nurse, three out of the four nights I was at the hospital. She was phenomenal. My mom was not able to be there with me unfortunately because she has passed away. I was terrified. I was sad. I was nervous. I had all types of questions I didn’t have answers to. Questions that I would have asked my mom if she was here. Jamie came in and told me she was there for any questions I had. I know all nurses usually say that but something about her told me she really, really meant it. She gave me more information than anybody else did. She told me how things were and didn’t sugar coat anything. I had trouble feeding my child, she wouldn’t latch and she worked with me every night to try helping. She took extra time to help me. She made sure I had answers to my questions and that she was there anytime I needed anything. Even on her busy nights where she had more than one room. I had a night where my hormones caught up with me and I started getting very emotional. She was the one I told when I first started getting those emotions and she made sure to check up on me. She made sure that I knew she was there for me too, that I also needed care and not just my baby. She was there for both of us. I unexpectedly had to stay another night and we both needed to be monitored. She was a Bili baby. She had a very high bilirubin. One of the nights my babies heart rate went up. She had to be taken into the nursery. Jamie made sure to invite me with, but I was exhausted. I physically couldn’t get up and go to that nursery with her. But knowing Jamie was the one that was in there taking care of her made me feel at ease. I could see her care for my baby from my room and she really did CARE. She took care of my baby like it was her own baby. I usually don’t take the time to write about my experiences or take any surveys and stuff like that. But Jamie was outstanding at what she did. If I could, and I did my last night, request that my nurse was her. She is what this award signifies and should be recognized. Her work ethic shows that this is more than a job to her, it shows in the care that she provided.”
Morgan Anderson, RN
“Bright star is the best description of describing Morgan, the past couple years has been challenging for our family. Losing loved ones is always hard to say the least, which loops to today. My mom went in for stomach pains and fever, turned out to have a bad gull bladder and a hole in her abdomen walls. Four days of surgeries put her into ICU with Morgan. Hope you’re sitting down, long winded story to tie this all together. Like they say everything happens for a reason, having Morgan by my mom’s side through this tough life section of her lifetime has really been a blessing from above. She comes in earlier than she needs to before shift time and stays later than shift time just to make sure her patients are comfortable before she leaves her wing. She is so kind and gentle to her patients like they are her own family; I feel like that she has become a part of our family. Morgan is very detail oriented and very supportive to patients and family members as well. You can also tell that her peers are as fond of her and easy to interact with. Morgan’s compassion for her patients, peers, family just demonstrates how big of a heart she has. Like I said in the beginning statement, she has made the family feel comfortable with the care given to our mother. Big shiny star. We want to thank Morgan for everything she has done for us, saying thank you is just a small gesture. Thank you, Morgan!”
Kate Latvaaho, LPN
“Kate has one of the most positive attitudes that I have work with. She is kind and compassionate and is very comforting to our patients. We work in an environment where our patient may get the worst news of their lives. I have witnessed her make them laugh and feel comfortable after getting some of the worst news. Working with her has made me a better nurse. I really appreciate everything she does for us and our patients.”
We are incredibly proud to recognize Jamie, Morgan, and Kate for the exceptional care and compassion they show each day. Their dedication reflects the true spirit of the DAISY Award and the values we strive to uphold at Fairview Range. Please join us in celebrating their well-deserved honor.
