How to Have a Safer New Year’s Eve

We’re all ready to ring in a new year. At Fairview Range, we want you to have a healthy 2021 and that starts with how you celebrate New Year’s Eve. While we’d love to all be raising our glasses together in Times Square, that’s just not in the cards this year. Let’s all celebrate 2021 safely so we can also all celebrate 2022. Here’s a few recommendations for a safe New Year’s Eve.

  • Celebrate at Home

It probably doesn’t feel like much of a party staying home, but we want you to see so many more New Year’s in your lifetime. You can still watch the ball drop, sing Auld Lang Syne, and set your resolutions. Make it feel like a party by connecting with friends and family over Zoom or whichever video chat format you use. While there’s been a lot of negatives this year, together you’ll find the positive and funny moments from this crazy year.

  • Drink Smart

While New Year’s is commonly associated with popping champagne, be mindful of your alcohol consumption. A good rule of thumb is one drink per hour with a glass of water and some food between each one.

  • Be Careful with Fireworks

Even without alcohol mixed in, fireworks are dangerous. Stick to smaller and legal fireworks. Designate someone who isn’t drinking to handle them. Make sure onlookers are a good distance away and not in the direct path.

If You’re Hosting or Attending a Gathering

While indoor gatherings are not recommended, according to the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesotans may gather inside with one other household with a maximum of 10 people. If you choose to gather outside, you can include a total of three households with a maximum of 15 people. Be sure to still wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet from others.  Learn more about how to have safer holiday celebrations during COVID-19 here.

However you celebrate, remember there will be more traditional New Year’s Eves in your future. All of us at Fairview Range wish you a healthy holiday, but if you need to see us, know we’re always here. We hope you have a safe and fun New Year’s!
