To protect our patients from the flu and other common illnesses, Fairview Range enforces visitor restrictions year-round. Due to the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota, we have taken additional steps to ensure the health of our patients, including the implementation of enhanced visitor restrictions at Fairview Range.
Hospital and Clinic Visitor Restrictions
For everyone’s safety, a limited number of visitors are allowed at Fairview Range Medical Center and Fairview Mesaba Clinics. In special circumstances, some additional accommodations can be made for families. See additional guidelines below.
We understand these measures may be difficult for our patients and families. Our top priority is to protect the health and safety of the people under our care. Patients are encouraged to work with their care team to find other ways to connect with loved ones.
- COVID-19+ and suspected/PUI patients will be allowed visitors based on the area of the organization they are in.
- People who are sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19 are not allowed to visit patients.
- Age restrictions:
- 5 and over except for areas where restricted further
- Ambulatory and procedural & perioperative areas: no age restriction
- Patients with disabilities may have a designated support person and service animal accompany the patient. Family members, service providers or other people with knowledge about the needs of the person with a disability may serve as the designated support person.
Adult Patients:
- Two visitors are allowed, plus children of any age, for clinic appointments. (Same visitors for entire appointment.)
- Four visitors are allowed for hospital visits (visitors may rotate each day).
- Two visitors are allowed for emergency department visits.
- Adult surgical patients can have two visitors throughout the surgery process. The two visitors may include children of any age. Please note, children cannot stay alone in the waiting room.
- One or two visitors may attend a patient discharge meeting for hands-on training.
Labor, Delivery, and Post-Partum Patients:
- No restrictions on the number of visitors, ages 5 or older, allowed per day.
- A professional doula is allowed.
Children under 18:
- Four visitors at a time are allowed for hospital visits.
- Two visitors, plus siblings, are allowed for surgeries and procedures.
- Two visitors, plus siblings, are allowed at a time in the Emergency Department.
- Two visitors, plus siblings, are allowed for clinic appointments.
- Children/siblings may accompany adults to clinic appointments.
- Visitors ages 5 and older are allowed for hospital patients. There is no age restriction for clinic visitors.
Behavioral Health:
- Two visitors as directed by site protocol.
End-of-Life Care:
- Four visitors are allowed at a time when a patient is dying.
Masking, Screening, and Safety
If you are approved for a visit, please follow these guidelines. These guidelines apply even if you received a COVID-19 or flu vaccine.
Medical masks are required for all patients and visitors to our facilities, with exceptions for children under age 2, those with health conditions who cannot wear masks, and those needing emergency care. Please arrive wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose. A disposable medical mask will be provided to wear if you don’t have one, and you must keep it on during your entire visit. This is to protect you and other patients and staff. You will need to reschedule your visit if you are not wearing a mask, unless it is an emergency. If you are unable to wear a mask and do not need emergency care, we suggest arranging for virtual care through MyChart. Learn more about our masking standards.
All visitors to our hospitals and clinics will be asked to self-screen for symptoms and COVID-19 risk at each visit.
You cannot visit if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, headaches, sore throat, or diarrhea. Watch for signs at the location you are visiting for more information.
Clean your hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you arrive and leave. Stay at least six feet away from others during your visit, and please go directly to and from the room you are visiting. Stay in the patient’s room during your visit. You may be asked to step out briefly for patient procedures.
Leave bags, jackets, or belongings at home or in the car. For everyone’s health, please do not come and go during your visit.
Connecting with Loved Ones
We understand that not being able to visit loved ones is difficult. We encourage patients to work with their care team on alternative methods to connect and give and receive support.
Deliveries for Patients and Permitted Visitors
Food, flowers, and gift deliveries are allowed at our hospitals. In addition, permitted visitors can bring food, flowers, or gifts with them when they visit.
